We celebrated the 74th Republic Day of India in Vilnius on 31st January, 2023!
Ambassador Nagma M Mallick hosted a grand reception at the Kempinski Hotel, Vilnius which was attended by Lithuanian dignitaries, Members of the Seimas, senior officials, Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of Lithuanian civil society including academicians, think tank members & media representatives, and prominent members of the Indian community.
The event began with a brief synopsis by Ambassador on India’s achievements in different sectors in 75 years of Independence. Thereafter, she presented an overview of India-Lithuania bilateral partnership, including, inter alia, the visit of Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis for the Raisina Dialogue, hosting of an exhibition on Monuments and Churches of India at Vilnius Rotuse as part of India@75 celebrations and the visit of two Lithuanian M.P.s to India for the Generation Next Democracy Network Programme hosted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. She also outlined the myriad engagements that India will host in our ongoing G-20 Presidency.
In the evening of 31 January 2023, a special cultural performance ‘Dykumos Garsai’ or the Sounds of the Desert was presented by Mangu Khan and Group, belonging to the famous Langa-Manganiyar community of Rajasthan, at the Samuel Bak Museum, Vilnius as part of the Republic Day celebrations. The folk group presented facets of their desert culture and traditional dances such as ‘Gorbandh’ and the ‘Bhavai’.
This was our final celebration event of Republic Day 2023.
